The Australia India Institute is pleased to invite you to attend an interactive session with Her Excellency, Mrs Sujatha Singh, High Commissioner, Indian High Commission, Canberra.

Mrs Sujatha Singh was born in July 1954 and joined the Indian Foreign Service in July 1976. She assumed her position as the High Commissioner of India to Australia in October 2007.

Her overseas assignments have been as Second Secretary in Embassy of India, Bonn (1978-82), First Secretary, High Commission of India, Accra (1985-89), Counsellor, Embassy of India, Paris (1989-92), Deputy Chief of Mission and Deputy Permanent Representative to ESCAP, Embassy of India, Bangkok (1997-2000) and Consul General of India in Milan (2000-04).

At Headquarters, she has been Under Secretary looking after Nepal (1982-85), Director, Economic Co-Ordination Unit (1992-95), attended the National Defence College at New Delhi (1995) and was Joint Secretary at the Foreign Service Institute, New Delhi (1996-97). Her most recent assignment was as Additional Secretary responsible for West Europe and the EU in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.

Mrs Singh completed her B.A. Honours in Economics in 1973 from Lady Shri Ram College, New Delhi.  She did her M.A. in Economics in 1975 from the Delhi School of Economics.

Mrs Singh is married to a fellow diplomat, Mr. Sanjay Singh, who is presently a Secretary (East) to the Government of India in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.

They have two daughters.
