Artist Crystal Jordan & Historian and Playwright Len Kenna
After the audience views the Photographic Exhibition of Australian Indian History, Len Kenna will speak on his and Crystal Jordan’s research. In particular, on the discovery of Bass Strait by the crew of the Sydney Cove, a ship out of Calcutta, in 1796. The ship was manned by Indians and Anglo-Indians, 17 of whom were the first non-indigenous people to cross Bass Strait, land in Victoria and mount an inland expedition. After landing in Victoria they walked to Sydney, 14 died on the way.
Len will explain how this discovery improved the economic development of New South Wales and Australia in general.
Crystal Jordan is a research assistant, artist and book illustrator and has illustrated three books, two of which are about Australian Indian History.
Len Kenna is a graduate of La Trobe University is a historian and playwright, specialising in Australian Indian History. He has written two books and numerous newspaper articles on the subject.
