On the morning of October 18, the Governor of Victoria, Her Excellency the Honourable Linda Dessau AC and Mr Anthony Howard QC, hosted a Reception for Victorian Youth Leaders at Government House in Melbourne. The event was held in the presence of Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Sussex – also known as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle – who had taken Australia by storm on their first royal visit since getting married in May.
In being nominated to represent the Australia-India Institute at the reception, I had the unique opportunity to meet other young Australians from across the country who held positions of responsibility in their communities or were considered leaders in their fields of work or study.
Though meeting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex was an incredible privilege, the highlight of my experience at the Victorian Youth Leaders reception was meeting Victoria's next generation of leaders and learning from their dedication. I left the reception in awe of the resilience, talent, and commitment to service that my peers had displayed in their work as servants of their communities. It was definitely an inspiring morning.
I am tremendously grateful to the Australia-India Institute for providing me with this opportunity. I would like to thank my former supervisor, Dr Karen Barker, for having faith in my ability to serve as a representative of the Institute.
