The Australia India Institute and the University of Melbourne are pleased to announce a visit by His Excellency Ram Nath Kovind, the President of the Republic of India for a lecture at the University’s Parkville campus on the evening of Friday, November 23.
The Chancellor and Vice-Chancellor of the University will join with Institute Director Craig Jeffrey in hosting the President.
The President will speak on the topic of ‘Australia and India as Knowledge Partners’ – a nod to the strength of education ties between our two countries. The lecture will be livestreamed on the Institute’s social media channels, with a link also available on our website.
The Institute, along with its office in New Delhi, has been instrumental in securing the historic visit of President Kovind to the University. The stop off at the University is part of the President’s three-day tour of Australia, the first ever visit to Australia by an Indian Head of State.
The tour comes at a critical juncture in Australia-India relations, with both governments currently developing comprehensive economic engagement strategies to build upon deep people-to-people ties. Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison has described the Australia-India relationship as one of “close strategic partners”.
