Professor Craig Jeffrey delivers his inaugural lecture on contemporary India

What is happening to contemporary India? And how might a focus on ‘youth’ provide a window on contemporary change in this country?

In his inaugural address as Director of the Australia India Institute, Professor Craig Jeffrey will answer these crucial questions. Professor Jeffrey has conducted 20 years of research on youth in north India, producing landmark publications on India today. This has given him a unique perspective on the ‘social revolution’, which he sees occurring in provincial parts of the country – a revolution which has profound implications for the future of the Australia/India relationship.

Professor Jeffrey will discuss what he has learnt about young people and South Asia over the past two decades, outline his vision for the Australia India Institute, and discuss how students, scholars, corporations, and interested members of the public might get involved in the Institute’s work.
