The Victorian Indian Doctoral Scholarship Program supported talented scholars from India to complete leading research of benefit to communities in both India and Victoria

The Australia India Institute (Aii) managed and administered the Victoria India Doctoral Scholarship (VIDS) Program for the Victoria Government. Launched in June 2011, the VIDS program awarded a total of 29 scholarships in the years 2012-2015.

The program aimed to increase Victoria’s knowledge capital and enhance relations between India and Victoria by attracting excellent Indian students and supporting them to complete doctoral studies in Victoria. Through their positive experience, the Program helped develop the ever-growing strategic relationship between Victoria and India and created ambassadors for Victoria’s education system. This mutually beneficial program gave Indian doctoral students the opportunity to work with top Victorian researchers and supervisors in world-class technologically advanced infrastructure and research facilities. The program attracted top intellectual Indian students to do research and studies in Victoria and resulted in PhD qualifications recognised by industry and research institutions around the world.

Each successful scholar received a prestigious scholarship of AUD$90,000 over the duration of their doctoral study, plus a full tuition waiver by the relevant Victoria host university. Participating universities were: University of Melbourne (8), Monash University (5), RMIT (5), La Trobe (3), Deakin (3), Victoria (3), and Swinburne University (2).

The VIDS Program brought significant positive publicity in India about the quality of Victoria’s higher education as well as transformative personal career opportunities for the scholarships recipients.

The VIDS program has now been completed.  Please refer to the Study Melbourne website for other scholarship programs available to international students in Victoria.
